What is the world’s smallest country?

The answer - Vatican City.

The Vatican City is officially the smallest country (some refer it as the smallest independent state) in the world, with only about over 40 hectares in size, and populated by less than 800 people.

The city is located within the city of Rome, Italy, enclosed by surrounding walls. Because of the small size, the city’s streets do not have any name.

The city uses Latin as its official languages, and most, if not all, of the ordinance and publications are produced in Latin language. Even the machines, such as the auto-teller machine (ATM) uses the Latin.

Vatican City was established in 1929 through the Lateran Treaty, during which the country was under the suppressive rule of the infamous dictator Benito Mussolini.

Vatican City is ruled by the Pope as the head of the state. The people in Vatican City is exempted from any form of taxes.
